1.  How can you help my child?

My teaching methodology is based on a five-prong approach:

Step 1: Root Cause Analysis

Identify issues faced by your child. Examples:

  • Is there a lack of interest in the subject?
  • Is it the student does not understand the principles and concepts?
  • Is it a lack of practice? Not exam savy?
  • What are the weak topics?

Step 2: Customised Solutions

Strategise winning solutions to help your child overcome issues and excel in the subject. Examples:

  • Excite and motivate your child through real-world applications.
  • Re-visit fundamentals and clear misconceptions.
  • Highlight important topics and questions that are frequently asked in exams. Explain how the same concept can be tested in various forms.
  • Equip your child with proper answering techniques for structured and essay questions.

Step 3: Putting solutions into Action

The customised solutions are systematically put into action through:

  • Lectures: Complex concepts are broken down so that the students can easily understand.
  • Concised notes: Contains key scientific concepts and phrases
  • Case studies: Actual Forensic Science case studies relating to Chemistry, Physics & Biology are shared.
  • Practice: Putting knowledge and skills acquired into practice.
  • Online resources: Facebook page (excelw vicky) and youtube channel (excelwithvicky)

Step 4: Review and Revise

Review is continually done through the following ways:

  • Orally
  • Short quizzes
  • Practice questions

Scientific principles, theories and concepts are reinforced. Any gaps are further identified and if necessary, Steps 2 and 3 will be repeated.

2. Why should I choose you over other tutors?

3. How effective is your tuition?

Each child that comes to me for tuition is a success story. The confidence gained by every child is tremendous as he/she now understands science and its principles. One parent even feedback to me that her child who never passed science since secondary one felt very enlightened after the first lesson. It so happened that there was a science test after the first lesson with me. For this test, his marks jumped from the usual marks of less than 15 to 21 marks out of a total of 50.  Although he needed four more marks to pass, his confidence was greatly boosted. All my students showed improvement after having tuition with me within a few months. My customised notes are extremely popular with my students as they have found them very useful and easy to understand. Some of the feedback from my students regarding my teaching methodology and notes are:

4. Is tuition conducted individually or in groups?

Both individual and small group tuition (max size: 3) are available.

5. Why don’t you come to my home to give tuition?

I provide a One-stop Science Tuition Package: I have the ability to teach from primary all the way to A-levels. Hence, my resources spanned from basic to university level. It is not possible to bring my resources to a student’s home.

Moreover, Science is a “Live” subject, students learn through observations. I possess various engaging tools and props for hands-on activities as well as to explain more challenging concepts to your child. Depending on the needs of the particular lesson, suitable activities will be conducted. Again, this is not achievable in a student’s home.

Depending on the ability and needs of your child, I can help to propel your child’s achievements to greater heights through:

  • Stretching the potential of higher ability students by teaching them more advanced topics.
  • Coaching lower performing students through practice and reinforcement.
